Kleanthes K. Grohmann
Assistant Professor


PROFILE

Undergraduate studies at University of Wales, Bangor (BA Honours in Linguistics, First Class, 1996). Graduate Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park (PhD in Linguistics, Specialization: Syntactic Theory, 2000). Kleanthes Grohmann has worked as a Researcher at ZAS Berlin (2001) before joining the graduate school on sentence types in Frankfurt as a Postdoctoral Fellow. He has taught at the University of Maryland (1998-2000) and at various institutions in Germany: Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe Universität Frankfurt (2001-2), Universität Stuttgart (2002), Universität zu Köln (2002-2003). He joined the University of Cyprus as a visitor in 2003 and has been Assistant Professor since July 2004.


RESEARCH INTERESTS
Theoretical linguistics (esp. syntax, morphology). Generative Grammar (architectural and conceptual issues). Syntactic theory (Principles-and-Parameters Theory: GB, Minimalism). English linguistics (grammar, history). Germanic syntax. Interfaces (syntax–semantics, –phonology, –pragmatics/discourse). Issues in the syntax of e.g. Basque, Celtic, Greek, Japanese, Romance, Slavic. First and Second Language Acquisition. Synchrony and Diachrony (morphosyntax).
